Basel, 10 December 2025 — Clinnova-MS Basel reached a key milestone with the first participants completing their 1-year follow-up visit at University Hospital Basel. Kudos to Clinnova study nurse and the dedicated Basel patient community for making this possible.
The first year visit marks not only a scientific milestone, but also an important perspective from the people who make this research possible. Early participant experiences highlight strong engagement with the study’s digital components, including the dreaMSApp, which enables continuous, unobtrusive monitoring through gamified mobility and cognitive tasks.
Our first participant reflected on first year in Clinnova-MS
“ I joined Clinnova shortly after diagnosis. From day one, I felt supported not only by the clinical team, but by a study that understands what it means to live with MS without being defined by it. The gamified challenges and cognitive tasks became a natural part of my routine, something I look forward to rather than something that reminds me of my condition. For me, participating is less about immediate personal gain and more about contributing to something bigger: helping uncover answers for future MS patients. Research takes time, but it has to start somewhere and I’m proud that my journey can help move it forward. After a year, the app fits seamlessly into my daily life, and I’m genuinely curious to see how the study evolves and what new insights it will bring.”
Such meaningful engagement would not be possible without the dedication of our study team, particularly Tanja, our Clinnova-MS study nurse, whose expertise and care ensure every participant feels supported throughout their journey. Her experience exemplifies the Clinnova vision: empowering patients to help shape future innovation while integrating research participation into daily life in a meaningful, manageable way.
“Reaching our first year follow-up is an important milestone for Clinnova-MS and for the broader vision of Clinnova. It demonstrates that digital, federated, and patient-centred research is not only feasible, but already generating the real-world insights we need to better understand MS in all its complexity. We are deeply grateful to the participants whose commitment drives this work forward.”

A European effort with growing momentum
With ongoing recruitment and follow-up activities across participating countries, Clinnova is steadily building one of Europe’s most comprehensive real-world datasets. Through federated learning, centres across the consortium can generate shared insights while maintaining data privacy and security at each site. This milestone highlights the growing strength and momentum of the Clinnova initiative and the vital contribution of every participant across the region.
